First portraits off the easel

Paws treats pets the way the 17th century treated dukes. One half of the shop is Dutch-master oil portraiture: a German Shepherd in low warm light against a dark ground, a British Shorthair looking faintly disappointed in you, all painted with the seriousness usually reserved for someone's grandfather. The other half is loose expressive watercolour on white — a calico, a tabby kitten, done in a few confident strokes. The oil portraits belong in a room with dark walls or a lot of wood. The watercolours are lighter on their feet and go anywhere, including a nursery. A few portraits also run as phone cases, which is the most practical way to carry a dachshund. Everything is printed to order. Three below: a calico, a German Shepherd, and a tabby kitten. Portraits of a good boy, and one or two good girls.
